At the April 2026 State Convention, an Ad Hoc Committee was established to look at future Convention Sites.
This is their report:
The Committee to “centralize Future Texas State Council (TSC) Host Sites” met May 11 via ZOOM. The following members were involved:
The five members were Joyce Habina (366) representing San Antonio, Vic Sabala (856) representing Harlingen, Tom Hamm (932) representing Tyler, Bill DeLeon (1013) representing Grand Prairie, and Ken Taylor (1122) representing McKinney.
We also invited Fran Brown, a Global Account Executive, to join us as an advisor only.
COMPLIANCE: VVA Constitution requires that TSC host two (2) Council Meetings per Calendar Year. Herein are the recommendations of this Committee:
MISSION:
The state directly assumes the role of the host body for all future TSCs to effectively provide centralized hosting for delegates. This would also ensure no more situations like Nacogdoches happen again.
Although we were not tasked with recommending beyond two future host sites, we unanimously agreed that the TSC Board should have adequate funding to put on quality TSC events in the areas of food, entertainment, and miscellaneous, and to cover any possible shortfalls in hotel reservations.
We recommend that every Chapter make a $100 donation for each TSC event to improve the overall quality. An additional $200 per year ($100 per TSC) should not exceed any Chapter’s budget to support the State Board in its capacity as Host Provider. The registration fee remains $75 per delegate, paid by each Chapter. A $100 donation based on the current 31 Chapters x $100 = $3,100 more revenue generated per hosting.
SITES:
Our unanimous recommendation for the next TSC location for October is San Antonio, based on the following rationale:
- Most centralized location in the State that has an active Chapter.
- Chapter 366 has the second-largest Chapter Membership in the State.
- Most military installations in the State, plus the City, have Riverwalk and the Alamo as major attractions. This could also generate more interest among family members.
- A major Airport serves it with all major domestic carriers.
Our unanimous recommendation for the next TSC location for April is Austin, based on the following rationale:
- The most centralized location in the state is the collective whole.
- A major Airport serves it with all major domestic carriers.
- The possibility of arranging a pre-planned group field trip to the State Capitol or a famous music venue could increase attendance among family members and delegates.
Further, this Committee recommends that TSC consider Fran Brown to be the Convention Advisor Negotiator. There is no cost for her services. She can help negotiate room rates, improve overall host quality, and address other related matters.
This Committee recommends that the TSC Board test-drive the next two (2) TSC Meetings to see how it works out financially and whether delegate/family attendance improves.
